Apple launch new iPhone 3G S & 3.0

Apple have launched the new iPhone 3G S, which is due to go on sale later this month. The new phone is faster than its predecessor, the iPhone 3G, and incorporates a new video and stills camera. It also has voice controls for making calls, a built in compass for sat nav software and other apps, and comes with the new 3.0 OS.

Older iPhone owners will get OS 3.0 for free next week. Some of the features, such as the video software will only work on the new iPhone 3G S, but the improvements are big and so the upgrade will be worth it. Copy and paste is finally in 3.0, as is landscape mode in many of the apps.

We contacted O2 Ireland today to ask if it will be available in Ireland next week when it launches in the US and other countries, but they don't have details yet. We will report these later in the week.

More details are available from Apple Ireland and Apple UK.
