MacBook Pro update: speed bumps

Faster chips and more RAM...

On June 6th 2007, Apple updated the MacBook Pro range, moving the entry model's Core Duo chip from 2.16 to 2.2Ghz. The middle (15") and top of range (17") move from 2.33 to 2.4Ghz. The increases seem to be small, but these are new Core Duo chips, offering better speed increases than may be first apparent.

The most significant change is in the screens. The displays are now LED backlit displays which are mercury-free, and follows Apple's recent environment statement and their efforts to make their product line "greener".

The SuperDrive speed has been moved from 6x to 8x, and the graphics card has been changed from the ATI Radeon X1600 to the rival NVIDIA GeForce 8600MGT.
