Nothing to display: the absence of Apple screens

20” display vanishes

Yesterday Apple dropped the 20” Cinema display from its line up on the online store. This reduces the choice of screens to two, the new 24” display which was introduced to work with the MacBook and MacBook Pros, and the traditional 30” HD display, which works with a Mac Pro desktop. This reduces the choice for the consumer to one screen for a Mac model- the 24” for new Apple laptops and the 30” for new desktops.

This is a concern as the only screen for a desktop Mac is the 1800 euro 30” display, which is a heavy price to pay to stick with Apple gear. There are lots of other manufacturers out there such as LaCie and even Dell, but who wants to connect a non-Apple display to their beautiful new Mac.

We can only hope that the long awaited revisions to the Mac Pro line-up and Mac mini, which we expect to arrive soon, will bring the mini-display port connection which is required for the 24” LED display.

More details on the 24” LED display and the 30” HD display are available from Apple Ireland or Apple UK.
