Apple announces new iMacs plus iLife, .Mac and iWork updates...

Mac focused announcements...

At a special news event held in Cupertino, Apple announced new iMacs, alongside a slew of software product updates.
The new iMacs have been designed with glass and aluminium, making them thinner and lighter. They now come in two sizes, with 20 and 24 inch models.
The keyboard has been completely redesigned, and is much thinner than its predecessor. The iMac also comes with a wireless Mighty Mouse as standard. Both the keyboard and the Mighty Mouse work using Bluetooth technology. Prices start at €1199 or £799

On the software front, Apple launched iLife '08, with new versions of iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand and iWeb. iMovie contains new ways to edit videos. Apple describe the new version of iMovie as a complete re-write, and although it has the same name as its predecessor, its a completely new application with far simpler tools for editing home movies. Uploading a movie to YouTube is now built in. iWeb, Apple's website creation application, now has the ability to make Mac OS X Widgets, and can incorporate Google Maps and AdSense into a site. GarageBand has a new "Magic GarageBand" feature making music creation easier. iDVD boasts better performance and encoding and 10 new themes for creating your DVDs.
During the launch Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, pointed to ways in which the iPhone is integrated into these new software technologies. He demonstrated the ability to publish images from an iPhone straight to the web, integrating the iPhone, iPhoto and .Mac storage space.
For the current 1.7 million .Mac customers, Apple have added this collaborative photo publishing feature, allowing members to publish photos to their web space, and others to add images to your site. .Mac customers now enjoy 10GB of storage space, up from the pervious 1GB.
In changes to iWork, Apple office suite, new transitions have been added to Keynote. Pages has received new features such as the ability to track changes, a total of 140 templates and two modes for word processing and page layouts. A new application called Numbers has been announced for the suite. Numbers is a spreadsheet application, and completes the set of office applications, making iWork a full productivity package.
